Wow, it’s been over a week since I last posted. Here’s a little catch-up then. This past week we finally saw some normal temperatures and outside crops are starting to put on some growth. This past week we finished planting cucumbers and tomatoes in the hoophouses and they are already looking to have grown considerably. The temperatures in the hoophouses have been consistently in the high 20’s even on cloudy days which has been great for these crops.
We have a couple areas that are dry enough to have transplanted many crops. Thursday and yesterday we transplanted head lettuce, broccoli, kohlrabi, kale, chinese cabbage, celeriac and spring onions outside. We also established a new strawberry bed which will hopefully give us lots of berries next year for CSA shares. We did a second seeding of spinach, spring greens and radishes. This past Wednesday we also were able to put a bed of carrots and beets in. The early plantings are a bit more challenging to keep weeded, but it will be good to have some early harvests of these.
Here’s a mid-spring photo album for your enjoyment!
