With weather like we’ve had this week, I’m very happy to have 2 hoophouses to work in. It’s been pretty wet (total of over 40 mm of rain so far this week and some more coming today). The first (20′ by 50′) hoophouse was actually so dry we had to water it really well before we turned the soil and got ready for the cucumbers. It’s early, but the planters and plants were ready so they went in. Hopefully the mulch, row covers and hoophouse keep them going for the next couple of weeks. Daytime temperatures in the hoophouse have generally been 20-25 C or more even on cloudy days. “That’s a lot of work for some cucumbers” you might say… well, we love cucumbers!
The second hoophouse will house mostly tomatoes, the other crop that is high on our list. It already has 1/4 or so planted to some early broccoli, but today we also had time to get a start on the tomato beds and even plant a few plants. Since we only just got the plastic on this house 3 weeks ago, the soil was quite wet still at the very back. We tilled what we could for now and laid all the drip tape for irrigation and started rolling out some mulch.
Well, it was a good week of work with lots accomplished. So Friday evening was Margarita time!
